This tells about how the president has many roles. He is the Commander in chief as well as in charge of the economy. He makes rules and regulations based on what he thinks is right.

http://bensguide.gpo.gov/3-5/government/national/president.html
This article talks about how the president is in charge of our nation. He can pass laws or veto laws on his discretion. Even though he has a lot of power, he cannot write a bill. He can propose one and give it to a Congress member to bring up.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_role_of_the_presidency
This states that the president's main role is to enforce law. He can also issue war on another country. there are also more things that they can do besides what is in the Constitution, because as time changes, the president gets more roles to take on.

This article basically says that the president has many, many roles, and that it is always in the best interest of  the nation. He can propose bills, pass a bill, veto a bill, and declare war. he can also enforce law, and oversee that everyone is doing their job correctly and also in the best interest of the nation.

Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism

With the help of your textbook and Ch 23, please explain the differences among capitalism, socialism and communism. Then explain the pros and cons that each hold. Due Friday April 1st.

Capitalism allows people to own and operate their own businesses. It is really the person's choice. One pro of this is that government is involved very limitedly and people can do what they want to do. One con is that there really is no line about what you can and cannot do.

Socialism is where there is group ownership in a business. One pro is that multiple people benifit and the government has a little more control. One con is that there isn't as much competition.

Communism is when the government is in complete control. This can be good in that everything should be fair. It can also be bad because people don't really get to choose what they want to do and how they do it.

Other Countries' Government Systems

1.  Pick two countries in Chapter 22 and provide an in depth paragraph on their government and how it operates.
Great Britain-
The British people have an unwritten constitution that is basically a set of guidelines to follow. They also are a monachy and have a hereditary ruler. Their Parliament consists of The House of Lords, The House of Commons, The Prime Minister, and the Cabinet. Like us, each group, or person has their own objective if you will of what needs to be done and how to do it.
Mexico made a new constitution in 1917. They have 3 branches of government like we do. They include the President, The General Congress, and The Court System. They also each have separate roles. They have a PRI.
3. What are some of the similarities of the countries that are in Chapter 22?
Most of the countries realize that government is only affective if they each do their job to help the others.

What are some of the differences of the countries that are in Chapter 22?
One difference is how many groups of people are involved in the government. Another difference is how the leader is chosen, whether they are voted for or if they inherit it.

4. Which country in Chapter 22 do you believe has the strongest government and why?
I think that the strongest government is Great Britain. They are mostly like us in the aspect that they vote, and are free to make their own opinions known.

5. In what ways does the U.S. government relate to the methods of governments listed in Chapter 22?
We are free to make our own decisions as to what we think is the best for our country. We can also vote for our people and it is ran fairly smoothly

Congress Articles

Please review the following articles and then post a paragraph of reflection on each in your blog.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/12/15/republicans-vow-reject-pork-filled-omnibus-spending/
Basically, Americans want Congress to vote on all of these articles. They don't, however, have enough time. This one in particular they are supposed to have done before Christmas Eve, and people do not think that is enough time to look into it and get the whole picture. We are not giving Congress enough time to make decisions sometimes.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/12/15/5655463-the-senates-war-over-christmas
This article is about working until Christmas. There is so much stuff to do, and they are saying they need to have it done before Christmas. This may not be possible, and people are mad. The guy said that he is a Christian and understands how important Christmas is and that people want to spend it with their families but they have work that needs to be done, and they are not stopping until it is done. There is not enough time.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20025737-503544.html?tag=cbsnewsLeadStoriesAreaMain
In this article, people are deciding about tax cuts. Pence states that this will do little to give people jobs and that he cannot support it. People are also saying that this proves that there is uncertainty in the economy, and I think that people just don't want to admit that. There is so much change in our government right now that I don't think anyone knows about the future economy, and we need to be really careful to preserve it.

How a bill becomes a law quiz

In your blog answer the following questions:

1. Explain how a bill becomes a law:
     1. The bill is written.
     2. The bill is assigned to a committee to review.
     3. The bill is read and changes are made.
     4. The bill is voted on.
     5. The bill is reread and changes are made if necessary.
     6. The bill is sent to the other place that it didn't originate from (the Senate or House)
     7. The bill is read and final changes are made.
     8. The bill is voted on.
     9. The bill is sent to the president.
     10. The bill is either passed or vetoed and if vetoed goes back to the original place to be changed voted on and if it gets a 2/3 vote it moves to the other place and if it gets a 2/3 vote there, the veto is overrided.

2. What is a committee and what purpose does it serve?:
A Committee is a group of people to get together to read and make changes to a bill so that there are less people looking at it. It takes less time, and is more efficient.

3. Read the following link and share your opinions: 1 paragraph  http://keloland.com/NewsDetail6162.cfm?Id=109027
I think it is a good thing that there was a change in power. I think that our country was not neccesarily doing that well, and that change might be good for us. To have new people in our government, with different ideas could be good. I think that something is going to and needs to change with how we spend our money.

4.  Read the following link and find a story and give a reflection on it:1 paragraph  http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/
Three things missed about the new congress-
This article is about all of the changes in the government. Many new people were voted in on this last election, and changes are going to be made. Many people are worried that the change will not be a good one. I think that it might be good to see a change and to get other people's opinions on issues going on in our country and world today.

5. Read the following link and give a reflection on it: 1 paragraph   http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2011/01/05/worried-about-national-debt-put-it-your-credit-card?test=latestnews
This article is about how our government wants us to pay for their mistakes. We are so far in debt that there is no way to go back, unless other people begin to pay. Americans can give donations from their checking, saving, or credit cards. I think this is very wrong. I think that the government should have been more careful on what they spend their money. If I would go and spend a whole bunch of money on something and not have enough money, what is going to happen? I eventually have to pay for it. The government isn't going to fix my mistake for me, so why should we fix theirs?

6. Read the following link and give a reflection on it: 1 paragraph
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40925203/ns/politics-white_house/
This article is about how Gibbs left President Obama. He became the outside political adviser for the president. I think that maybe this could be good, but it might be bad. With all of the changes already in the government, this might be too much change.
