How a bill becomes a law
Before reading, I knew almost nothing. I knew many people had to approve the law, and I knew that it was a pretty complicated process, but I didn't know how extensive it actually was. I didn't know how many times they actually had to read it so many times and what all happens if it is vetoed. I think it is good that the process is complicated because we don't want to be passing laws that will be bad for our state or country.

Chapter 7 quiz
1. Explain the difference between hard and soft money:
Hard money is money raised and spent to elect candidates for Congress and the White House. Soft money is a fund given to party organizations for such :party-building activities" as candidate recruitment, voter registration, and get-out-the-vote drives, and similar efforts.
2. What is the electoral process and is this something that you agree or disagree with and why?
An election is a formal decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual to hold public office. (encycloepedia) I agree with this because I think that is what a democracy is all about- letting the people decide.
3. What is the difference between a closed and open primary?
A closed primary is a party's nominating election in which only declared party members can vote. An open primary is a party's nominating election in which any qualified voter can cast a ballot.
4. Explain what absentee voting is and what the positives and negative may be with regards to it:
Absentee voting is a process by which people can vote without actually going to a polling place on election day. This can be good becauseit allows disabled people or very ill people to be able to vote with ease.
5. What changes to your see in the way we run elections ten years from now?
I think in 10 years, that elections will all be electronic.
6. Explain your views on money and elections with regards the amount of money that is spent:
A lot of money is spent on elections for advertizing and such. I think they use way too much money for it. People should be voted on what they will actually be doing if they are voted for instead of what is bad about the people running against them.
7. Go to cnn.com or foxnews.com and find an article dealing with the election process. Post the article in your blog and provide your viewpoints pertaining to the article.

People will be voting about ending the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy. I think that anyone should be able to be in the military if they are willing to do it, no matter what their views.
